“First of all, congratulations to my classmates! We did it together.

I still remember the day Radka interviewed me, and I also still remember the first day of the program. It was Teacher Thiri’s class, where I felt like I was Jon Snow from the Game of Thrones series, since I felt like I knew nothing. [But] I realized that I was an empty cup and so I got a chance to gain the maximum amount of knowledge from this program.

I am honored to receive the Highest Attendance Award. But actually, this is not because of me. This is because of the efforts of the SGPA team, the knowledge of the Instructors and—last but not least—the ideas of my classmates.

There were days when I was traveling or I was sick or I was in no mood for studies, but I didn't skip any class. I had to remind myself of how much effort the SGPA team has put into this program, and I had to listen to the discussion of the Instructors and the ideas of my classmates.

Yes, there were classes where I couldn't discuss much or I had no ideas about the topic. But at least I could listen. I could listen to the thoughts and ideas of my classmates. I noted them well. Without these factors, I couldn’t have finished this journey. That's why I listed the discussions of my classmates as a reference in almost all assignments I have submitted during the program.

After the coup, I felt like I stopped growing. But, this program, it made me feel like I am growing again.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

I will try my best to be worthy of the SGPA alumni title.”

"First of all, on behalf of the students, I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation to the School of Governance and Public Administration (SGPA) and its team. I know they had worked very hard to organize everything so that we, the students, could learn in a friendly and enabling environment. I am sure that our Instructors had worked very hard as well to prepare all the teaching materials, given the students’ diverse backgrounds. Thank you very much to our Instructors for guiding us towards building federal democracy in Burma. The topics we learnt about and discussed together in the past six months were very relevant to the context of our country.

The knowledge we gained from our Instructors as well as from our group work is priceless. I am sure the past six months in the classroom were exciting and, for those of us who have to work 9 to 5, five days a week and also travel frequently, also a little tiring. Some days, I felt like I had already had enough at work, but somehow, we recharged ourselves and joined the online class in the evening, once again. We faced many challenges—amongst others, the lack of access to electricity, poor internet connection, the sound of military planes flying nearby and also having to leave the class’s Telegram group while travelling. But here we are, we made it!

This is our hard-earned achievement—both personal and professional one—and I think it can definitely be counted as one of the milestones we reached in 2023. I do believe that each one of us will be contributing to the rebuilding of our country, applying the knowledge that we have gained from SGPA’s Diploma in Public Administration program: maybe we will serve in the field of public administration or maybe in the field of federalism and democracy.

So, congratulations to all! I look forward to many more learning opportunities like this in the future. Thank you all very much."

“Learning at the School of Governance and Public Administration (SGPA) has expanded our understanding of public administration and federal norms. As Burma moves towards becoming a federal democracy, having strong knowledge and skills in this area is crucial for preparing for the future changes in our system and the building of our nation and state.

I believe that boosting the knowledge and skills of young people will have a positive impact on the future of our nation and the state-building process in Burma. Striving for federal democracy does not mean Burma will break apart and become divided. Instead, it is an effort to find the right path to unity and to work towards the best solution for Burma’s politics to thrive and uphold democratic values.

Surely, we first need to acknowledge the real situation in Burma. But, instead of getting upset and blaming the situation, we should respond with knowledge and skills by investing in our education and gaining more experience. That way, I believe all SGPA students will be ready to contribute to shaping the future of Burma.”
